Big pool of oil under the car this morning. On closer inspection it's the front seal on the new power steering pump. Sprayed over the new roll bar bushes. So the eco car will be off the road again soon.........

Not yet. I have other things higher up the priority list for my cash unfortunately :(

What can be higher priority than finding a good '44 :|

Three mates at work. 1st buys Subaru 2.5 N/A 12K. 1k per year insurance  (It's not a turbo) Lost 8K in 4 years. Sold it for a Golf TDI.
2nd buys Alfa 156 2 litre. 4 years & just out of warrenty the gearbox lets go. (Also high insurance.) Big money to fix. Seroius depreciation.
3rd, Buys a cleo 172. Insurance & servicing for this makes mine look very cheap! It's quick. But not stable or relaxing on the motoreay. And I can keep up with it most of the time :)
My Lux hasn't been cheap. But it's been cheaper than the above. Maybe my '44 wasn't such a bad choice. Theres loads of life left in it yet. Unless you get somthing really boring you won't save a penny. (Nissen Micra or worse...)

My boring old Volvo 240 estate took us to Poole to see the grandkids 3 weeks ago and returned 32mpg.Today we went to Bury St Edmunds to buy a boat and towed it all the way back here and still got 32 mpg.people at work are buying corsas etc on finance because they believe they are buying reliability and economy.when I tell them they are wasting money on cars that are no more reliable than a well looked after old car with more luxury and capability than theirs they just laugh about it .Oh well, you just cant make people understand sometimes ,can you?And when I want a blast Ive got my 944,which gave me 35mpg on a long run last year, even at 70 mph average! But sometimes I have to admit to 25mpg!

Yup I have conversations like this with the wife who is a number plate snob.
When I spend money on the 944 like 2k 2 years ago on getting it through an MOT, she whinges but I then point out that that is less than 4 months of standing charges on the Jag she doesn't get it! :(

the oli leak could well be coming from a failed seal at the oilfilter housing- block interface. Its an aluminium gasket which corrodes away over time. If so, budget on several hours work to change it, and do the oil/water heat exchanger seals whilst you are in there. I think you can guess why I know this!

Except that it's power steering fluid thats leaking & I can see it spraying out of the front seal on the PSP!
Welcome aboard Covermaker. If your in Leeds your not so far from me! :)
