Hi Pork,
General consencus is that there isn't a great deal you can do to an S (or S2). Certainly nothing cost effective in comparison with selling it and buying a turbo if you just want to go (much) faster.
You can fit induction kits, new ECU chips (Promax do some tested ones)
Futher down the list you can buy some trick cams from the States but cheap they are not.
Beyond that I think you are looking at fitting superchargers or turbochargers but at that stage you are into the realms of "because I can" not "because its a good idea".

I'm not that mechanically minded and I'm sure you will get more detailed responses but I had an S and good though it was it was never going to perform much better than it did. In comparison with the 951 I now run there is a big difference in performance and my turbo still has a few horses to coralle!
Probably not what you wanted to hear - sorry about that!

Have to agree with David. It's just not cost effective. With the exchange rate it's worse than it used to be. My advise would be to take it to chip wizards in Rochdale & have it remapped. He will get you around 15 at the wheels (more if theres anything else wrong.) for £300. The S is the best for this. Either that or swap it for a turbo.

A Dansk or similar exhaust will help release some horses. I used to use K & N's but don't now after reading adverse comments from a variety of sources. They are very sensitive to ignition & set of plugs & leads, dizzy cap & rotor arm will give a good improvement. Also if it has done more than 80K miles a injector service will help.
Yes you can change cams but all it will do is give BHP in one area & take it away elsewhere.

What's the mileage? It may well be that the rebuild will claw back enough lost HP to at least put a temporary smile on your face :)

Also I found when I first serviced my 2.7 that simply cleaning the carbon deposits out of the dizzy contacts and a good wipe 'round with some acetone made a significant difference. The point being I agree with Jim in that everything needs to be more or less spot on for these cars to run right.

If you have it remapped by Wayne if it needs an injetor service he will tell you & he can do it there & then. The Dansk is worth worth it if only because it makes it sound as if it has twice the HP it actually has! :) It gave me 5hp but only between 5 to 6000rpm.

Mots of the Porsche places flog 'em so Bert at Berlyn, GSF, Euro Car parts etc. The pound is weak against the euro at the mo so worth shopping around, should be 150 or so.
On mine it released power up the range & deffo sounds much better

I seem to recollect paying around £160 for mine a couple of months ago.

They do a back box & a front box. The front box replaces the Y piece of the front pipes that come off the stock manifold (You have to cut them to fit). Front is only about £60 so easier to do the full system. Get a fitting kit at the same time & make the job easy.

Worth spending a little while longer than just throwing it on. I found the heat sheild above the back box was very rustyso cleaned it up & painted it. Some of the brackets were tatty as well so I did cleaned the lot up.

Hi,
I own a 944 s2 and have fitted the following on mine and have noticed a good
performance improvement.

An induction kit air filter from Porscheshop.
check these " special " spark plugs http://www.pulstar.com
and extra gaget from http://www.turbonator.com
I fitted the plugs, they are not cheap, around $30.00 each but they last around
four years. I have noticed a fast improvement in acceleration and power throughout
the range. You also save a bit on petrol. The turbonator works well if you install the
induction airfilter.
The airfilter from http://www.porscheshop.co.uk I fitted a green cotton filter and was
pleased.
I fitted a chip from Accell racing available from ebay, listed below. On my S2 it made an extra
18 hp and raised the rev limit by 300. It is easy to fit yourself in around 20 mins.

Hope this helps
Warren

Isn't it odd that car manufacturers, with all their research & developement work in pursuit of increased mpg and engine power don't fit the Turbonator? Have you dyno'd the car to validate the advertised claims? Or is your butt dyno sufficiently accurate?
