I was just wondering if anyone has fitted a smaller than standard (383mm iirc for the 924) steering wheel to their 924/44/68 and if they noticed any differences, i.e. heavier steering or such-like?

I fitted a Momo Millenium Sport to my 944S2 which is about 1" less in diameter than the original wheel, using a genuine Momo boss and have not noticed any problem with heavy steering or over sensitivity when driving. I purposely decided to not go too much smaller as I think the steering would have got really heavy and reading the instruments would have been difficult.

With mine I can still see all the dials, gauges and lights I could see with the original, indeed I can probably see more because of the smaller centre pad and spoke cutouts. It is also much more comfortable as the Momo wheel rim is slightly thicker than the original and better shaped for grip.

I realise some purists will kill me for this but I also think the new wheel brings the whole interior up to date.

I also want to get a smaller wheel for my 944 as being a pre-oval dash I find it hard to get my legs under the current one and access to the pedals isn't too easy. Mine is also lacking in power steering so don't want to make it too heavy but not too fussed about parking difficulties as it's never going to be my main car.

Have been looking at the OMP WRC as it also brings the wheel forwards somewhat giving even more clearance but not seen one in the flesh yet to see how deep the dish on it is.

Hi :)

I have a smaller wheel in my 928 ,which is MUCH more comfortable than the standard one, PLUS it has a squared off bottom, which gives a LOT more leg room :)

I've never undestood this issue of leg room until now, I'm 6'2" and have no problems with knees getting in the way.

I guess when you are less tall you have to sit a lot closer to the controls. :)

Not necessarily. I'm 6'-2" and changed my steering wheel for a smaller diameter Momo one. I have a 330mm diameter wheel and the steering was noticably heavier at slow speed but I don't think it make much difference at anything over 20mph. However I did have to adjust the seat as low as it goes so I could see all the top of the dashboard.

As others have suggested the steering wheel position was improved on series two models. Series one 9442 and 924s have a different bracket which sites the wheel lower...
