So I picked up a new dash for my early 944. Its not perfect but its a lot better than the one in my car at the moment. Its got a few small cracks. I was wondering what I can do to it to hide the small cracks and stop them getting any bigger. I came up with these ideas.

1) Fill cracks and coat the whole dash with something.

2) Get the dash covered in some kind of upholstery.

3) Put a kind of surround around the area of the window blower vents.

Any suggestions on the different options or ideas about what/who to use and how to do it would be appreciated. I'm in the Gloucester area.

The real issue is that the plasticisers evaporate and theyre isnt a deal that you can do about that. Poverty spec shiny dashes were the best, but matte type 'Lux' dashes are all going to end up in the same state eventually.

If can stabilise what's there already with an adhesive or something and then cover it all over then it should be OK I would have thought?

Sounds good to me! Just wondering if you are aware that you can buy a ready made dash cover? Porscheshop list one at £85.oo.I ve always thought they were a bit on the expensive side!

A good plastic/rubber cleaner is Meguiars interior trim detailer, it actually soaks in so should help against the drying out.

Back to black and those kind of products just lay on the surface and shine they don't offer any protection.

You could also try Auto Glym Leather Care Cream. As crazy as it sounds, it states on the back of the bottle: -

'Leather Care Cream also cleans and protects textured vinyl and other plastics inside and out, imparting an enriched natural finish. For a silicon-free finish on dash panels and fascias, apply sparingly, buff and allow to dry'.

Does it work I hear you all cry?

Well, I tried it on my 944 S2 and the results were fantastic. In fact, I cleaned as much of the interior with it as possible, including the sunroof vinyl lining. The results were stunning. I'm actually due to give the interior another good clean as it's not been done since October. I'll get some pics posted showing you the results.

Hi all,

I've spent 3 hours today cleaning the interior of the car. It looks so much better for doing. Anyway, as I suggested in my earlier post, the cars leather and vinyl interior trim has been cleaned using Auto Glym Leather Care Cream. Enjoy the pictures. I hope you can see them.
I almost feel guilty sitting in the car it's so clean now!
