I'm problems getting my 944 started. I started it up on the weekend for the first time in a few weeks, and it started first time and ran perfectly all day. Then the following day it just wouldnt start ( this has happened before) so i did as a previous RAC man had done and undid a fuel pipe in the engine bay, some fuel spilled out. put it back on and again started first time and ran fine. ( was told by the RAC that they thought it may be creating a fuel vacume??) I then went to start it again in the afternoon and no luck again, but this time the fuel pipe trick didnt work! (I should add the first time it wouldnt start before the fuel pipe incedents, it unpluged the coil lead put it back on and then it started first time, i think this may of been alucky coincence though!) any suggestions?? |

We really need to make this a sticky! Right you need to be methodical, does it have a spark? Check by upluging a lead & pop a spare plug in & turn it over watching the plug you should get a strong spark. If you have a spark then you need to check fuel, it sounds like you have fuel at the rail, get someone to turn it over & listen for the injectors clicking. Have you changed the DME relay? If not then do so or google for how to bypass it, better to buy & keep a spare in the glovebox though. Do the above then report back with what you've found & we'll take you through the next stages. |

Hi, I'd go for the DME as previously mentioned. I still need to get round to buying a spare for my car! ![]() Ben ![]() |

Thank you all for speedy responses, if only my car was as reliably as the forum! have checked the spark and it is consistent and strong, have also checked the fuel at the point where it enters the injectors and is coming through fine. I will try and source a DME relay as quickly as possible and let you know the outcome. thanks again. p.s i have tried to attached a phone picture so you can see what it is your dealing with! (may be of bad quality as from a camera phone) |

when you crank the engine over does the rev counter needle "bounce" if not its the reference or crank sensor |

I fitted a fuel pressure gauge on mine. (Inexpensive & looks good as well) Makes trouble shooting easier. |

Here. http://www.lindseyracing.com/LR/Parts/944FUELGAUGE.html It was cheaper when there were 2$ to the £. And it's gone up a bit as well. ![]() |

Any gauge supplier should be able to supply the gauge & adapters, some one like Europa, Demon Thieves, Merlin Motorsport & Rally Design to name a few. |

I take it the pressure gauge screws into the end of the injector rail. What size is the thread needed for this? Think I will invest. |
