Hi all,
The trigger part of my handle has snapped off (drivers side of course!) and I have porsche scripted handles. These are criminally expensive. So I was wondering could I either fit an earlier plain handle or canibalise it for its trigger to fit mine?

Isn't the trigger part the same as the Mk1 Golf?? Used to have one & I'm pretty sure there the same. Don't know how you go about repairing them but I would have a go. You could just fit the whole handle but then you lose the script. Mine are really sticky & sometimes I the central locking won't let me out if one or other has part stuck in.

I fitted a golf mk1 door handle to my lux and it wasnt as straight forward as I was led to believe, the handles had to be stripped and rebuilt using some of the old door handle mechanism.
The final result was a much better operating handle :) :)

The repair kits consist of the drop link. This is usually the part that breaks. Replacing the handles on a 944 is a right pain.

sorry to hijack the thread...i have a door handle problem too. I can not open to door from out side. I have removed the door card and can see the mechanism operating when pulling the trigger but the catch does not open....any ideas please? (it opens from inside ok)

Hi,

If you've got a Haynes manual for the 944, there is quite a few pages dedicated to the strip down and refurbishment of the door handle and lock mechanism. Hope this helps.

I agree with the previous statements about it being the same mechanism as used on a Golf Mk I.

Cheers

Ben :bounce:

Thanks for those replies and your kind offer Claire but I've just picked up some cheap early handles. I'll see if I can re-build my handles and I'll put the results up here.

Your drop link has broken. You can get these from most independent Porsche parts suppliers. A right awkward job to replace, as you have to try and attacth it through the small hole from the outside.

Do NOT bin the scripted handles as they are worth good money secondhand, i am pretty sure you will be able to swap the triggers over.

Porsche...not sure what the drop link looks like but if its the bit that is shaped like a ? with a ball joint type connection then that looks ok?

ok so I've fixed the problem. The drop link was ok but I've adjusted the the ball joint by unscrewing a couple of turns...this has done the job.

Next job is the o/s electric window...which isn't working....I can hear is clicking when the button is pressed plus I can hear the additional engine strain when pressing the button...would this suggest that the motor is wanting to turn but something in the regulator is seized?

Could be the motor or the linkage, the grease hardens with age & sets solid. The only way to investigate is to strip the door panel off & have a look.

Jim,

Panel is off. I can put my hand behind and feel the cog...should i be able to rotate this by hand?
