Post subject:  Exhaust valves

I’ve just pulled the head to bits on my 91 turbo ready to have new guides fitted and noticed that the exhaust valves appear to have a cream coloured coating, It is not in very good condition but what remains is extremely hard, would I be correct in assuming this is a ceramic coating ?

Edited as I misread: the exhaust ports are ceramic lined. The valves differ in that they are sodium filled; as were the 924 Turbos.

No - more likely to be carbon, same colour as plugs with a rough finish.

A light bead blast will clean them up.

Thanks, I can be more aggressive with them now without worrying about destroying them.
