Hi Everyone,
I have just joined this site as I'm planning to become a Porsche owner sometime this year.
I have had one bad experience with Porsche ownership when purchased a 1984 944 10yrs ago. It was my fault entirely as I rushed the buy and let me heart rule my head.
If I sell my current car & bike my wife as expressed interest in getting a Porsche to share.
The model I am aiming to buy is the 968. I think it has a nice style and is somewhat rare to see on the roads.
I was first contemplating the CS but not sure my wife would appreciate a Porsche with less greature comforts than her regular runnabout. The Sport then seems a good compromise.
Any advice in finding & buying a lovely trouble free car would be much appreciated.

Hard to find good 968's. Ditto, read the Hartech buyers guides. But don't right off the 944. Good ones are simpler & cheaper to repair & there are lots more good ones that nuts like me have spent more than there worth rebuilding them. If your patient then you will find a good 968 but you will have to be. So many have been raced.

I have been kinda been bitten by the 968 bug myself - thinking of getting a sport to replace the 944 as a track toy and shlep mobile....

I need to sell my current car that has the garage space before I look for a 968. It seems most cars I have seen are around the 10k mark with 100,000 plus miles on them.
If with full service history would these cars be relatively trouble free?

It's like the legal profession says "Buyer Beware"

In many ways all cars are the same irrespective of whether or not they are a Porsche

A service history is an indivcator and a selling point. I always say only the previous 5 years is worth anything to a buyer.

On top of that, all a service history does is tell you that the car has been serviced

There also needs to be lots of bills telling you what else has been done and compared to the articles you have read as recommended on here

There are a few not so nice people about who have the servicing done but when advised of a looming issue in the near future try and sell the car on instead of going to the expense of having important work done on the car.

Therefore, seek out a specialist who will do a full report on the car for you and then use the issues thrown up as a bargaining point. This should cost £300 or less and against an initial purchase investment and future running cost investment it is worth every penny spent.

Finally, a 100k car, (approx) should only be about £7k private and needs to be something very special to exceed £10k at a dealer IMHO, Sports and Club Sports excluded

Get a good one and it will just go on and on, if well looked after, just like a 944

Don't know where you are the country but if your're anywhere near the South then try Jon, he might have or know of a car for sale, mainly 944T's but you never know he has all models going through his workshop and at least they won't be knackered.
