Can anyone tell me what this part is..and what it does. It's on my 1989 944 Turbo but isn't connected.

It's a water temp sensor for the turbo water pump I think. Yours seems broken. The threaded part sticking out the electrical connector should be attached to the brass hole you can see near it.
