Hi. I am new to 944 ownership. I have a 1992 s2 coupe with a Sony single din stereo unit.
I want to upgrade it to a bigger screen so can use sat nav on it (via phone if needs be).
I have read that a double din stereo doesn’t fit without alteration.
Is there a stereo that slides in the single din slot but with bigger screen that can then cover the little storage area under it?

I recently fitted an Alpine ILX F509D to my ‘91 turbo.

The car is away having rust treatment so I can’t share any pics for the time being. The audio installers were worried about having to cut bits of plastic so I bought spare trim pieces but none of it was needed. They said it all fitted without any issues.

I’ll try attaching a picture I took of someone else’s 944 with a similar looking screen. Hopefully the upload works.

The alpine works well. It’s fast enough. You can connect to it with your phone via cable or wireless. If you connect the phone via cable, you could then fit a volume dial which would connect via Bluetooth. I didn’t do this as I prefer having a wireless connection but having a volume dial on the steering wheel (or somewhere of your preference) may be preferred by some?

I think most of the single DIN ones with extending screens tend to go up rather than down don't thiey?
