Hi all..924s 1988.....been doing some work on car, refurb starter, speed sensors etc basically getting ready for a glorious summer of motoring.....connect the car battery up...and the front headlights main beam come on. They do not pop up and no key is in the ignition but I can see with the bonnet up that they are on. I pulled off the positive terminal on the battery, wiggled some relays and fuses under the dash, connected back up and no headlights come on this time. Went for a nice spirited drive to blow off the winter cobwebs and all is back to normal..........what are the likely causes of the headlights coming on do you think? Cheers, M

Good morning

I'm not sure what's happening with your headlights but after I rebuilt my engine, and car hadn't moved for a year, I had quite a few weird electrical goings on. After a few days, and a relay wiggle or two, they all went away and have never returned! Hopefully yours will be the same, they go in the huff when they don't get used!

My indicators stopped working, the hazard warning button wouldn't work, fog light bulb was out (bulb was ok), the drivers door speaker wasn't working, the rear wiper was noisy and the driver seatbelt was a bit noisy coming out.

I bought a new flasher relay, but have never needed it, and everything else all started working again, or got quiet, after a few days and been fine since! All very weird!!

And that's not to mention stuff like the radiator, turbo aux water pump and starter motor, fuel pump wiring, were all leaking or broken or not working, but were fine when it was parked up! The moral of the story is use it regularly and it will be fine!

Stuart

Thanks for reply.....guess there must have been a quirky short in one of the relays as it was this area that I last fiddled around with....cleaning all contacts on fuses/relays.....apart from that, car behaved well and still pulls nicely...not sure the 160 horses are still there but with my bum only 1 foot off the ground it sure is alot of fun! :)
