Hi all, 1991 S2 Cab. I’ve removed the gear stick and put it back and struggling to get second gear. Is the box a dog leg or is it the fact that I’ve not but it back in the same place on the lever. Don’t be to hard on me, newbie owner. Thanks.

Welcome :bounce:

Check the following to make sure you have put the lever back in place correctly -
http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/trans-07.htm

It is quite common for the gear lever to become sloppy so possibly your lever is worn to the point where you can no longer engage gear correctly. There is another linkage at the rear on top of the gearbox which can wear out.

Hopefully it is the linkage as otherwise you could be looking at issues inside the gearbox itself...

David

Thanks David,
Had a look at the Clark’s diagram, will try to get into the car later and check the angle of the shifter. I didn’t disturb anything just uncliped the lever was thinking I’d put it back either to high or to low, as assume it would alter the throw.

No worries - standard H pattern by the way with reverse to the right and down (if i recall correctly - been awhile since I've driven mine!)

Does it select gear OK with the engine not running? (shouldn't need to use the clutch with the engine off)

Sorry for the slow reply. Yes can select all gears with out engine running. The only thing I moved was the gear knob but didn’t note where the c clip was located think it just needs trial and error!!!

Your first sentence is key....

If you can select all gears without the engine running then it sounds like a transmission issue rather than the lever itself.

What happens when you try and select 2nd with the engine running / under load?

Hi, sorry for the slow reply, I completely got it wrong!!! My problem was the rubber sleeve under the gaiter was twisted and when I went to select 2nd and occasionally 4th it was stopping the lever from engaging, anyway all sorted now. Thanks again for the advice.
