Wotcher. What are the options for a rotten 924 fuel tank? I've got some barrier cable gland compound to seal up the pin holes in the short term, but ultimately it's a gonner. It's gone under the straps in the past and now it's leaking from the reserve bulb.

Breakers on auction sites are wanting £450 for old 924 tanks, which is too much for a tank that will need a full refurb anyway. Is anyone adapting plastic 944 tanks? Alternatively can i get a refurbed steel one off the shelf? Do any members have one for sale?

Also, just as a meander, i thought it might be relevant to share what actually happens when you run the 2.5l out of fuel. First the fuel pump begins to make a noise that sounds like wheel bearing failure. Next it misfires when you put your foot down in a manner that suggests it's leaking air in post-MAF, but it drives fine at lower throttle positions and idles fine. Gradually you lose power at all throttle settings, but it idles fine; then you lose idle. The whole process takes about 10mins, which is far slower than one might think.

99% sure you cannot fit the 944 places tank as it's the wrong shape.
Radiator specialist can repair fuel tanks. Serck Marston used to do them. Replace the filler pipe and all fuel pipes at the same time.

Google Renu fuel tank restorations, there are companies all over UK using the process. Results seem to vary from good to bad, find a company that has been recommended.

944 plastic tanks can be fitted but requires fairly major surgery to mountings etc.

Does anyone have a tank for a 924S they will sell? Mine is too badly corroded to repair, it would need an entire new reserve fabricating as the steel is so thin it is porous.

Douglas Valley
9Apart
Prestige
Woolies

none of these have one, and not seen one for a decade in some cases. Has anyone got one? It's getting desperate now.

some phone and ask options, especially as you have a tank as a template

I found one in the USA @ $2000.00 bit rare of a part 477 201 021 F, is the current part number

I am sure one of the alloy tank fabricators in the UK could make an equivalents tank to fit. Or use one of their off the shelf tanks.
I think I'd be wandering around a scrappy with a few cardboard templates & a tape measure. Most moderns use plastic tanks and I am sure something could be found that would fit.

Cheers. Farting about isn't an option because it's a daily driver car, i haven't got the facilities to remove the gearbox myself. If i had it removed and another built i'd be without a car for weeks. If it lets go totally the car will probably get taken off the road, and any money to fix it will be spent on buying something else. I need something that is a direct swap for the indy.

Nine Apart have one for a very early 2.0 lux, will this physically fit? It's smaller, but the suction and return look similar sized. It's a non-lift pump model with a plate bolted to the bottom of the sump which is missing, but i can fabricate a plate easy enough.

I have to say, the parts support for the 924 is sparse. The front calipers are weeping and nobody does recon calipers! Woolies do seal kits so i can have them rebuilt, and the car will be missing for 4 days which i can handle, but doing the same with a fuel tank will be weeks. Skoda Estelle parts are easier to get than 924.
