So a bit of background on the car, it was previously owned by a gentleman in Gloucestershire who unfortunately was rear-ended leaving the car a cat c right off, after buying the car back from the insurance and rebuilding it he managed to enjoy it for another 6 months before it began suffering head gasket failure. After this, it was parked in a field and as with most projects next months job became a decade later, it was then bought by Cotswold Porsche Specialists before one too many projects and excessive corrosion led this 924 turbo to be listed on eBay. This is where I come in one miserable Saturday left unattended by the other half, I wandered onto eBay and a few days later I was the proud owner of this 924 turbo with every intention of restoring it to its former glory over the next 12 months. Well that was roughly 4-5 years ago and various life events have meant the 924 project got pushed aside, I am now fortunately in the position to take on the mammoth task of restoring the car. Due to its cat c history, I decided to allow myself to have some fun with this project and build a 924 Carrera GTS Clubsport recreation using the more modern 1.8t to power it. A few main goals for the project - Be externally identical to a 924 Carrera GTS Clubsport - Be easily maintained and repaired by myself, future owners and any third parties working on the vehicle - Be able to easily source parts in the event of maintenance or repair - Develop skills and knowledge in regards to vehicle restoration and vehicle development such as panel beating, welding, cad design, 3d printing, etc - Develop a range of components and kits so others can more easily carry out and enjoy their own 924/944 1.8t conversions The Inspiration ![]() The Reality ![]() The Initial Teardown ![]() Front Sub Assembly Removal ![]() Rear Sub Assembly Removal ![]() |

Just a wee bit of t-cut and that will come up great! Seriously, a lot of work there and should be a cracking car if it comes off. All the best and keep the updates coming! Stuart |

Last weekends task was to assess the current state of the corrosion and begin removing panels to gain access to affected areas as well as begin prep for modifications. How my Sunday started ![]() ![]() ![]() How it ended ![]() Evidence of the accident can be seen on the tip of the chassis rail where it was pushed into the other car (I assume) ![]() Corrosion to the nearside chassis rail I assume a remnant from the accident as the offside shows no side of corrosion or paint damage or cracking ![]() Corrosion spreading down into the inner arch ![]() Not photographed was the 3-inch hole in the nearside inner arch where it meets the battery tray or the horrific state of the floor pan, my original plan was to order a genuine floor pan from Porsche as I could not find any after market suppliers but at roughly £1600 plus vat I am tempted to instead invest that into tools and equipment so that I can build my own as well as other required panels. |
