Post subject:  New Accelerator Cable – Adjustment Questions

Hi all,

I have a '89 944 2.7L and have found the accelerator cable has always been slack even with the maximum adjustment with the two 13mm nuts. I assumed this was due to a stretched cable as it is something I've encountered previously with a different marque.

Before I fitted a new replacement cable I measured the two and it did seem to be slightly shorter (maybe 5mm). Once fitted to the car I have seen some improvement but not to the level I was expecting.

I have a few questions to the gurus on here:
There is 5-10% of the adjustment left, I was expecting it to be more. Is this standard/acceptable or is something else wrong (e.g. at the pedal itself?)?
I've left some slack into the cable (see picture) - should I tighten it further?
Have I routed the cable in the engine bay correctly? It is similar to how it was before and from what I can tell online but wanted to double check.

Cheers,

Oliver

bet the pedal is a bit bent, possibly due to being jacked up in the wrong place and the floor getting bent, then the pedal adjusted by a competent technician with big muscles

Ah, so "adjust" by using a rubber mallet on the floor near the pedal (detatching the cable first)?

Thanks,

Oliver
