first post here ![]() ok , im trying to find info on different 944 2.5 8v engines without much luck lol . i assumed they were all the same but read somewhere that the 87 model had a lower c/r and less power. since then ive read that the 87 was actually the one with more power? info ive got ..... 1987 - m44/07 - 158bhp@5900rpm - c/r 10.2 1986 - m44/07 - 150bhp@5500rpm - c/r 9.5 1985 - m44/02 - 150bhp@5500rpm - c/r 9.5 first ..... are these figures even for uk cars?? lol whats the difference between the 07 and 02 engines? what changed to up the c/r? head? pistons? yet more confusion .... after reading the above i found a web page saying from 1982-1989 all 2.5's made 163bhp and 151 lb/ft ![]() any help much appreciated ![]() cheers |

Also I believe the USA spec for the 944 is 150BHP. |

Agree with Jim. But with cars of this age it's all academic. Put it on the rollers & then see what you have. Typical fiures are around 110 at the wheels except for a few. A long way from Porsche ones (Which are flywheel) Far as I know the head is the same on all the lux's. The 2.7 had larger inlet valves & are very expensive when you find one. Most difference is in the DME computer fitted to the car. Fuel injection very much in it's infancy at that time. Hi & welcome by the way ![]() |

Welcome to the forums. Click on this : https://techinfo.porsche.com/techinfo/p ... ATALOG.pdf and go to the V-Pages (bookmarked, but near the end of the doc) - this lists the engine types throughout the model's history. |

Theres a dimple in the head face. Don't skim it out! Thats as far as you can go. But Lindsey racing do cometic gaskets in different thicknesses. Got one on my cam box & it's good. No leaks & reusable. Used a stock Turbo head set on mine. Engine internals are a bit speical. Cranks a work of art! The stock head limits you to 165hp in thoery. (If you believe the flow figures from Lindsey racing.) Needs bigger valves & port work to go further. Or forced induction. (The most cost effective route hence the 951.) Had big plans for mine but spent all the money just sorting it out! Maybe one day. Throttle bodies sound interesting. ![]() |
