Post subject:  Steering Wheel Options

Hi All,

I found the standard steering wheel a bit combersome as being over 6ft tall it gets in the way of my legs when operating the clutch etc.

I have been using a 300mm Momo for a while which solves that problem but does feel a bit too small and heavy, and means I cant see the indicator flasher and master warning lamps on the dash, so Im looking for something in between.

I was about to go for a Club Sport wheel (which I really like the look of) but it seems they are 360mm - same as the standard wheel, so not sure what to go for.

Just wondering if any of you have been here before and have suggestions?

I have a CS wheel with an excentric spacer. I you don't mind bent elbow driving style you can add an additional spacer (not eccentric). I'm 6'2". The wheel is a delight, I use one on the 993 as well.
Straight elbows is for Italians anyway.

Hi Endoman,
thats an interesting idea.

Does the ecentric not make it feel a bit "weird" though?

Not at all, it makes getting in and out easier as well as the tedium of stop start driving. The Atiwe one is for the CS wheel, others may need a Momo type. Works even better in the 993 as the pedal positions in rhd cars is a bit offset.

Well,

plunge taken and a CS wheel and eccentric spacer ordered.

A new one from OPC barely more than the used ones on ebay!

Hope it works out and the Momo is up for sale soon :)

PS, Endoman, I notice your wheel does not have the stitching up the centre of the bottom spoke - is that the diference between the Porsche and Atiwe versions?

Yes my 993 one is Porsche and the grip is more textured. The horn push is Porsche the original had a glued on Porsche badge which I didn't like.

All fitted and I have to say the eccentric spacer does the trick (thanks for that tip Endoman).

It did feel slightly "bus like" for the first few miles after the 300mm Momo but got used to that now and its nice to be able to see the warning lights on the dash :)

One issue that did crop up was with the plastic back plate on the horn push - whilst I did try to prise this off gently, 2 of the 4 plastic hooks snapped off when I removed it. I glued them on with specialist plastic glue and they seemed ok but when I finally clipped the horn push pack in I heard 1 or both snap again. The pad is fine if ever so slightly loose so I dont plan on taking it off until I can source a replacement - but I can't seem to find anything online - other than 1 Norwegian web site that says page not found.

I cant imagine the OPC will do anything so any ideas anyone - pic of the offending part below.

Just in case someone else has this problem, amazingly, you can still buy this part from Porsche at £9.20 + VAT

Part No = PCG34784000

It’s amazing what they still have and some parts are stupid cheap

The cover over the fuel sender in the boot floor, eBay 20-25 quid for a 30 year old part, Porsche £4.50 brand new

That is exactly the wheel I have on my 993 as well, although the leg positioning is not an issue because my car is a left hooker
