I’ve removed one of the fog lights from my 1986 944 to repair the broken glass.
I’ve removed the reflector unit and the bulb is shielded (see picture) to prevent direct light. This shield is rusty on the inside and can not work as it should.
1. Has anyone repaired this some way without just buying another light unit.
2 in my opinion fog lights are pretty useless particularly on classics which are unlikely ever to be used in those conditions. Has anyone replaced the glass with clear glass and turned them into spot lights (I know we have additional lights to the main pop up lights) Just wandering.
Brett and Sam.

Is that Shield Crimped on or just held on with a couple of bend over tabs,

if you can get it off you might be able to foil the inside for some reflection, think re chroming might be a bridge to far.

the reflector looks like it will clean up with some pepsi or coke, no harsh chrome polish or it will be gone

Bend over tabs. But I’m thinking now maybe just paint it silver inside the reflector with some heat resistant paint. Foil might just fall away after a while. And prob not worth to much effort with a fog light.

I'm in the process of getting some replacement lenses made up as I've got a broken lens and seems silly to have to replace the whole thing for over £300. I've seen replacement covers for the square dash car but obviously they are a bit less complex.
