Hi folks,

I have a 1984 (registered Feb 1984) A reg 944. It's white, has vinyl/pascha upholstery and no sunroof.
I have electric windows (although I could probably wind up manual ones quicker!!) and a remote switch to open the tailgate.

Should my car have central locking?

Also, in the centre console I have 4 small switches. From right to left they do the following:
1 - operates the rear wiper
2 - squirts the headlamps when they are up
3 - no idea
4 - switches the electric mirror controls from left/right

Anyone know what 3 does? (it has a worn out picture of a light on it) I've pressed it and it doesn't appear to do anything...

Help please

**actually there might be 5 switches, I can't really be sure and I' not going outside now because it's so flippin cold!**

I like your stripes! I have just ordered a set of "over the top" racing stripes in red and blue (wide blue, narrow red)

Do you have the same switches as me then?

I also forgot to add I don't have power steering either :(

That would be why they don't do anything then. I don't have fog lamps. (Althouh I thought the foglamps would have been on the rear switch as a "double position switch")

But hey, thanks. I can stop worrying about something being broken

yeah I have the same switches and was wondering what the middle two did. I have front fogs (well two lower lights which I thought were fogs) but the switch on the centre consol doesn't seem to switch them on!!!

The stripes were already on when I bought the car, I think they're going to stay. I don't have powersteering either, I can hardly turn the wheel at low speeds.

That extra switch on the '82 lux I had operated the bumper lights when you put main beam on, sort of an extra main beam.
On the '89 car the bumper main beam lights come on with the normal main beam.

I think those stripes are original.I just picked up a second hand book"Porsche" by Bill Reynolds and there is a picture of a 924 in the same colour scheme as yours. Yes you need some Weetabix in the morning to turn the wheel at parking speeds but mine is transformed once on the move and absolutely beautifully weighted thereafter. You need to constantly check the tyre pressures as even a small drop makes a huge difference to the handling. :)

Mines the same as yours,no power steering,no sunroof and no central locking(who needs that lot?). I also have the Pasha interior(great ,isnt it?). :D On mine that switch cuts off or switches on the extra driving lamps in the front valence in conjunction with the main beam. However,as you can see, mine is in the fast colour! 8)

82 Spec is much the same as 84. Mine came with Harris Tweed interior, electric radio aerial and the front wipers work for the Europeans which of course makes the car faster. Along with the stunning black go-faster finish

I had no idea that you could turn the bumper main beams on and off, handy to know incase I go fiddling about with the strange buttons in the future. Mine were just on when I tried it.

You shouldnt have central locking; no. It was only introduced for the 1988 model year and cars which may have it can be identified by their later type non-script door handles.

For owners of series one cars who cant toggle the bumper mounted aux lamps with the switch, its a common fault caused by a poor earth.
