Hi team!

So been doing a few miles now and have noticed a low down "wub, wub, wub" noise from the front tyres. This is most noticeable on smooth flat roads. It doesn't happen all the time and lasts for 2 seconds or so. I have read that this low down 'wub" noise is to do with the tyres being out of round or maybe not balanced.

So I rotated the fronts with the rears and went for a spin. The sound was just there and to my untrained ear it seems to be coming from the rear. I have inspected the tyres and they look ok to me but clearly something is adrift.

I have, by chance, a tyres shop almost opposite me that can balance the tyres, if that was the issue. The tyres are Falken Ziex ZE914. They are four years old and have only done 8,000 with me and have loads of tread left. The tyres were professionally balanced 4.5 years ago

Any thoughts?

Drive it get them hot and they should return to round, I would get the tyre shop to put them on the balance machine, you will soon see if they are out of round

Parked up for ages on the same spot on the tyres will make them go temp out of round, drive it more

This, try pumping them up to 45-50psi for a few days, don't drive it like that & then let them down to their proper pressure & take it out for a spirited drive. Plenty of bends & braking to get some heat into them.
I had one pair that despite multiple heat cycles never did go round & ended up swapped for a new pair. I have had them freeze in the past & do this as well.

Thanks for replies..all good info....so, before I chase this issue, is the "wub, wub, wub" noise. Is this an out of round tyre? or something else? Anybody here experienced this?

Wheel bearings can make that noise, but you swapped front to back and the noise moved

They might be out of square as well as round

Hiya.
Just to add my pennies worth - I've had this not on my 944 but on two Ford Kuga's and a VW Passatt.
Mine was from tyre wear - not detrimental, but called blocking - where the edges of each block of the tyre tread pattern sharpens at the edges as it wears.
If not directional tyres - putting left to right and vice versa will help - whilst putting right front to right back won't.

As soon as I changed mine around or replaced the tyres, the noise disappeared instantly.

Have you tried checking the transaxle mount?
