Just had my car checked over and the oil is p***ing out the top of the oil filler because it is full of congealed old oil. New oil does get through to the engine but when revved the oil risies up the filler neck and out the top.

Any body got experience of changing the oil filler and advise on how to go about it.
I've checked th clarks garage site but wondered if it's something a reasonable pavement mechanic can attack :?:

Any advice would help, Cheers

Get it to a specialist if I were you. Could be a problem with the pressure release valve and needs fixing before it goes bang!

Oil filler is part of the breathing system so could be the problem, pretty sure it's an o-ring at the bottom & a bolt or two half way up. However sounds a bit more like it's pressurising big time, does it smoke or use oil?

With the engine running & warm take the oil filler cap off & put your hand over it. If it blows onto your hand like a mini fan then it could be piston blow by & rebuild time. Could be the oil cooler is mis aligned & nipping the relief valve but usualy you just get no oil presure rather than too much. Would show on the gauge as well.

Thanks for the replies. Its the OPC that have diagnosed the problem and are suggesting to replace the oil filler would be the remedy - or at least the starting pint. It's the hangover from the car being rarely used for the last fifteen years.

Just that there isn't much space to play around at the back of the engine. Might take me a couple of days to build up the courage to start the work. And will probably lead to a lot of cleaning up afterwards.
Won't be driving it to the Scalextrics night on friday

Yes still be there to collect the trophies :P
But the car may be going into hibernation while I try to sort out all the little faults.
Maybe next year I'll be able to enjoy ownership more than the last 16 months :|

Part of the joy of classic motoring! If there only little faults your on a winner. Most jobs on the '44 are easiest from underneath. Find a friend with a pit! I'm not planning to use mine too much when the salt goes down either. Spent too much for that. :blackeye:

Taken me three months but finally got round to checking the oil in the filler. Sucked out the oil from the base and this is the state of it :!:

So. I believe this is the complete part and will start to remove mine tomorrow.

No doubt will have bare knuckles when finished as there isn't any space to play with. Hopefully let you know how I get on :|

Once off, I intend to try and clean it thoroughly before re-installation. Any ideas about a good engine flush for whenit's all back together :?:

If that is the colour of the oil in your engine, you've got a water leak. I should check the head gasket!

Either a water leak or running straight STP motor honey instead of oil!!!

I would definitely drain the oil and check it.
Its more often the oil cooler seals rather than the head gasket that causes 'milkshake' in 944's.
