Post subject:  S2 Cab Springs

Hi all,

thinking of doing a suspension refresh on my Cab in teh co ming months.

Looking in PET it appears there are a few options for S2 springs denoted by colour - violet, turquoise, white, yellow or beige.

Now, my current springs are a lovely shade or orange/brown "patina" so Im not sure what they really are underneath.

I guess if I take the struts apart there may be some colour visible in a protected area, but I was just wondering if you guys know what colur springs I need for the Cab.

I dont want stiffer/lower then standard - its a Cab after all.

A few places are showing stock of S2 struts at the moment - I am assuming genuine Porsche so do we still need to be on the look to avoid struts made 10 yrs ago?

Thanks

Ian

Hi

the spring choices for the S2 are quite confusing

when you are looking for the colour code its normally a brush stroke on one coil,

So looking at PET2, the standard springs are violet marked
944 343 631 11 904 Violet

unless you have some other specification on the build sticker like 474 or 030 or 031 or 757

most seem to be available at £205.00 a set

struts are still available at £307.00 a side,

top mounts are NLA

Thanks Waylander,

my build label only has 288 438 490 533 593 605 946 - none of which are sport/suspension related as far as I can tell so I guess its violet for me!

So around £800 to refurb the front end sounds OK, althoiugh Im sure there will be a few other bits and pieces (bumb stops etc) that will need replacing.

Does anyonebody have any recent observations on the age of Porsche strut stock?

Thanks

Hi Ian,

Having looked for someone else recently,

Add another £100 for bump stops, gaiters, bolts, and the plastic cable management parts, they tend to break.

if you need rears,
Standard 951.333.032.074 NLA since 2014
Koni M474 NLA
M030 £235 per side

944 is the only ones left in stock.

951 333 032 05 @ £228 a side.

this is why most go for a B6 or Koni conversion, and keep the standard springs,

much better damping and cheaper as well

Below is the quote for the parts I needed when I replaced the suspension on my cab. Note the struts went back as they were knackered old stock (long story), but the code for the springs was correct.

Thats for all the info guys - I now have a shopping least at least.

Waiting to hear back from OPC but had a chat with Porscheshop yesterday and thay say that thay can supply new Sachs made S2 Struts at £300 each, springs at £200/pair and rear dampers at £150 each.

I had a look on Rose passion for reference and their struts are also ariound £300 each.

No rush but will be nice to have something to crack on with in the garage.

You can do both fronts for £300 with Koni or B6

If you order the standards check the date on them, mine on the front were brand new and dated 2007, the NS one is done already after 20k miles, it wobbles and knocks in the middle

Good value for300 quid, changing them to B6 with the tech skills of 51rider later this year

Thanks everyone for the input.

I have a quote from OPC (below - these are ex VAT costs) so I think I will order these but check then dates on them.

I did the ARB bushes when I changed the rack a couple of years back so dont need those this time.

May then ask 51Rider if he is up for doing a B6 convert on my old ones later in the year.

Note that OPC are saying rear shocks are NLA at the moment, so will have to source those elsewhere.

Cant find my old spring clamps (last used 25yrs ago) so will have to buy a set of those aswell.

Post subject:  Re: S2 Cab Springs

I would just bung a pair of B6 on the rear, mine is fine on them and not upset the balance at all, (still have Porsche originals almost new on the front) but sure has got rid of the wayward rear end, and a new set of anti roll bar bushes helped too for the rear

Any idea on a part number for B6's please?

I have entered my car spec on various Bilstein supplier web sites and they are all come up with no options at the moment :(
