It pains me greatly to say it but our S2 is no more. She caught fire under the bonnet on Sunday night and after the brigade poured 1800 litres of water on the engine and interior I'm afraid she'll not be coming home again. ClassicLine have taken her away to a breakers yard before they give their final decision, but I doubt very much they will fork out to repair the amount of damage I saw in the car on Sunday night. It's been a 22 year pleasure and over 150,000 miles at our hands and I'm already missing just looking at her in the garage, never mind driving her again. It's only a car but I can't believe how upsetting it's all been.

I am. It's amazing how attached you can be with a lump of metal but I never ever envisaged being without her. My family used to joke I'd be buried in her. We've been all over the UK, Scotland, Ireland, Europe on family holidays and down to Le Mans a couple of times. I've lost track of the number of shows and meets we've been to, and more than a dozen track days when I was a bit braver. Washing and waxing the wifes Jazz on a Sunday is just not going to be a substitute

Are you planning on a replacement or is it just to early to speculate on future actions

I put more on your PCGB post, I know exactly where your coming from on the emotional front

If mine was a total loss. I'd probably give up and buy something like an Audi RS3 or TT-RS.

I collected a 2.0 TT from a customer a few days ago, with the DSG gearbox. I was very impressed, 228bhp and AWD with that gearbox was a very enjoyable drive back to the workshop. Way too early to say though
