Post subject:  Shout out for Centre Gravity

Just wanted to take the opportunity to recommend Centre Gravity. I picked my 944 S2 up from them last night and it's made such a positive difference. I thought my car handled pretty well but it's so much more balanced and neutral now, and the writhing of the steering wheel on bumpy roads has disappeared.

The main reason I took it to them was actually to sort out the rear ride height which has been uneven side to side since I've had the car, and which another Porsche specialist has already had two (unsuccessful) attempts to put right. This they have done and the car now sits millimetre perfect. The improvement in the way it drives was an unexpected and very pleasant bonus!

To cap it off, they said it was one of the nicest 944's they've ever seen which was another very pleasant bonus :D . One very satisfied customer.

I also find Chris and Pete brilliant, and would not trust my car with anyone else, Center Gravity really are the go to Porsche suspension guru's in the UK, last time I was there they had three 993's in, mine and 2 GT2's, never seen that before, anywhere, but it must reflect the trust those car owners have in the firm. They are both Porsche owners, enthusiasts, and members of TIPEC :D

If you need work done soon I would suggest you don't delay, they always have a longish lead time?

No rush for me. I have just had a quadruple heart bypass operation and I cannot drive at the moment anyway.

I am interested in the "writhing of the steering wheel on bumpy roads" which sort of describes what happens on my 968. I have rung Centre Gravity and left a message to book my car in but I wondered if you could give me any more info on the problem with the front wheels?

"Bump Steer"

I too was suffering with it. C&G had my car in for a touch of their magic a couple of months ago, although I have not had much opportunity to drive it since I noticed a difference immediately. In the few times I have driven it has become apparent that the car is much more poised, braking is much more positive at high speed and I have even altered my driving position now I don't have to grip the steering wheel for dear life!

Hi, before I had the geometry set up if I was driving briskly down a typical bumpy A-road the steering wheel would be flicking left and right as the wheels themselves came across imperfections in the road. It didn't bother me particularly and I didn't consider it dangerous, I just though it was a characteristic of the car. The car still tracked pretty straight - it was just that it was best to hold the steering wheel loosely and let it do it's little 'dance' rather than try to fight it. After the geometry set up the steering is much more composed and the wheel isn't dancing about all the time. Hope that this is a better description.
