Post subject:  Fitting 52mm gauges
I’m looking to fit the following VDO 52mm gauges into the centre console under the stereo.
Oil temp
Water temp
Analogue clock

I have a couple of questions though:
1) - Can I splice into the existing water temp sensor wiring?
2) - What size sand-which plate do I need for oil temp please?

The issue I have is my steering wheel covers up the existing water temp gauge and I have to peer over it to make out the temp.

The answer to question 1 would be no, the values of the thermistors will be different

No idea on the sandwich plate size

Thanks for confirming.

Turns out Lindsey Racing do a sump-plug with a thread in it for the oil temp sensor.

I am sure you could make your own sump plug for next to nothing, buy one without a magnet, drill it, tap it with the right thread, job done

Better than the cost of Lindsey racing plus post plus import duty plus VAT

Good shout. I’ve also been trawling eBay and found some for £9.

On another note would this be the correct place (highlighted in yellow) to tap in the radiator hose sensor pipe for my water temp sensor?

Also, do I need to drain the radiator first please or can I cut into it and add in the adapter as it is?

Is that the top hose?

Just bear in mind that the hoses are a small fortune, top hose temp is after the rad, if you want before rad temps you have to tap into the bottom hose

Not sure which one it is, it sits under the AFM.

I ideally want the temperature as it’s coming out of the engine block.

Test-fitted these recently and they fit a treat.

I need to today up the DIY face-plate (5mm Palfoam) they are sitting in and wire them up.

been working on a digital option using a Pi Zero and a few cheap sensors

Well the Pi powered digital might be a work in progress

but the analogue stuff is done

bought a VDO clock on the cheap as they are hard to come by at sensible money, this one was not working and required some surgery

had to prize open the casing very gently and unsolder the clock movement from the case, on inspection two paper can capacitors had succumbed to age and environment and popped their lids off.

not much info to go one but a quick google and they are 100uF 16v, 80p for 5 from RS components, soldered the new ones in and the clock now works

so the gauges and clock assembled and working.
I just could not do without a clock in the car, so had to drop a gauge
