I’ve had my S2 for a year now and have sorted my garage so it’s time to devote a bit of time to thing. The suspension is poor to say the least, in fact it has 198k on the clock and I’m pretty confident it’s running its original setup!!!

I’ve fitted some Fuchs 17”s but now need to look at suspension. I don’t want to spend the earth as the car is only for weekend with good weather but I do want it to ride well.

I’ve been looking at the SPAX setup as the car will also need lowering but keep coming back to Bilstein B6 as I know they’re excellent. A couple of questions though?

1) - Assume the rear is a straight swap with the B6 and a DIY job ?
2) - Lowering at the rear is done by adjusting the plates (DIY) and torsion bar (specialist) ?
3) - Can the front B6 shocks be lowered ? If so any suggestions on springs please, I think 25mm will do?
4) - Design911 look to be the fairest price at £446 delivered unless anyone knows anywhere cheaper please?

I was going to pay someone to do the B6 mod but may have a go myself after seeing our German friends YT video.

My suspension is B6 all round, H&R front springs, 26mm torsion bars,

you can use clubsport springs on the front they are 20mm lower than standard and a bit stiffer I think,

944 343 531 09 904 Blue marked £210 a pair

The Front inserts are 34-001042
The rears 24-020527

you need to watch D911, all the prices on the web are plus VAT and delivery

At that mileage standard replacement suspension will be light & dark better. A sorted 944 on good standard suspension drives very well. I did a refurb on a 944 2.7 a few years ago & that was just amazing how much better it was.And that was a low mileage car.
So I wouldn't rush to alter it.

Those 17” Fuchs (assuming copies) won’t be helping on tired suspension either.

The amount of lowering at the rear is limited by just adjusting the spring plates. I fitted 968 torsion bars and reindexed it, not easy. All bushes were replaced and i got a friend to drill and tap the ends of the torsion bars which made reindexing much easier. You don't need to pull them out very far to disengage, remove shocks set ride height (2 jacks needed) and fiddle til they slot back in. Takes a few goes. I used Koni sport shocks with the coil over kit from Paragon. Front wishbones comp spec exchange from Hartech.
Final geo done by CoG and it handles like a dream. Hard work but well worth the effort

Thanks for the feedback people. The B6 how-to is expecially usefull.

I will look to go to CofG for a final setup once I’ve added the parts, they’re only half a hour down the road from me which is a bonus too.

I’m under the car today so will also take a look at bushes and whether they need replacing or not.

I did the B6 conversion on my S2, then geo at CoG. Different car afterwards. Note that the biggest difference was the geo setup. Just changing the hardware from original made little difference on its own.

Rears have arrived today so will be attaching them this weekend, need to think a bit more about the fronts as they need welding so need to find someone local.

Thanks for the advice, CofG will be the first place I visit once everything’s fitted. Can you give an indicative price for their work please?

Depends what you have done. I had corner weighting done, so it took a full day and was around £500. Keep in mind they're normally booked up a long way in advance too.

Depends what you have done. I had corner weighting done, so it took a full day and was around £500. Keep in mind they're normally booked up a long way in advance too.


Thanks, not not too bad, I was expecting it to be more than that.

I've called them a couple of times and they've not got back to me so guessing they're stacked at the moment. Will try them again.

Do you remember the cost of replacing the standard suspension?

Front right 944 343 032 19 @ £307.69

Rears 951 333 032 07 NLA, the only genuine rears are Koni at £235 each, 951 333 032 04

for 1000 quid I would go B6 all day everyday

This is exactly why I have gone down the B6 route. Bit of a faff with the fronts but should perform well.

I had a quote for 968CS front springs and they are running about £180+VAT. Not many alternatives that’s the problem re front lowering springs.
