Post subject:  Early 944 rear suspension refresh

Hi All,
After a recent visit to goodwood ( first track outing) the backend seems very squishy under hard acceleration .... I am currently running spax psx(wound up to stiffest setting) adjustable drop links and standard ARB's which have been polly bushed...

I have just purchased some thicker torsion bars from pelican, 27mm up from standard 23.5mm ones before trying coilovers...

Can anyone recommend which rear end bushes to replace whilst I am in there and if bests to stick with OEM ones??

I had the rear suspension re-furbished on my 240k mile 944 last year. Most of the bushes were still in very good shape (although we replaced them as we'd already bought replacements). The rubber is pretty solid ( i don't know if the S2 had harder bushes than the early cars)

Solid mounts will increase the road noise - you may not want to do that

Might be some mileage in replacing the spring plates though - those bushes are likely to wear more I think. There's a German company - partworks.de that can supply them.

I'd also look at the gearbox mount (and an only 944 linkage) while you're in there. Filling the gearbox mount with urethane can rescue a tired mount & give you more precision in the gearchange.

I've used Elephant racing bushes and Lindsey racing semi solid gearbox mount (old one fell apart). Very planted but quite an increase in nvh.
CoG set it all up, well worth the trip.

replaced the gearbox mounts already porsche oem ones ( ouch) ....

Have gone for polly bushes - including the ones in the spring plate so should make it alot more compliant...

Hava track day at Silvertsone in a few weeks so we will see!

Now I just need to install that supercharger :)
