Joined here a while back when I got this but noticed a trend on Porsche forums, none have specific areas for build threads unlike every other forum I've been on... Put me off doing a build thread tbh, it's so odd. Why is this though? Do none of you guys do anything to them? lol. Anyway, I've broke up for Christmas and work has finally started on this so figured I'd throw one up anyway. Bought in January, finally collected it in March, had to keep it in a council garage (no space or power)until November and finally about 2 months back got a unit to crack on with it. Here's a bunch of pics from the day I 1st viewed it and when I got it back home ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As you can see, its a rusty 1987 Lux model, with the 2.5 8v engine, which has had a turbo/S2 front put on along with sports seats and some questionable trimming. It cost me the grand sum of £900. The plan, road legal track car. Fully stripped out, fiberglass panels, full cage, VR6 Turbo swap and upgrade anything I think needs it. |

Whilst I had it at home. I was able to do a couple of bits. Poked at all the rust to see the extent of it a little better and I stripped out the interior. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Yeah... plenty of rust haha! ![]() ![]() ![]() Felt a little sad selling those seats as they were honestly the most comfy OE seats I've ever had the pleasure of sitting in. Mo good with a cage and harnesses though , And they covered almost 50% of the cost of the car ![]() 2 months back me and a few friends managed to get ourselves a unit for working on our cars. As soon as it was in, I got cracking. 44 and my daily; ![]() Apparently they don't come out the top? ![]() Crossmember fully removed ![]() Torsion beam out ![]() Box & tube out ![]() Plan over Christmas and into January Carry on stripping to a complete bare shell, sell everything I wont be keeping. Build rotisserie for it, get it on that (building a workbench too) Start working through all the rust |

nothing like a little job to keep you amused, but in for a penny so they say, Think thats going to take a lot of work, so you planning on bunging a VR6 power plant in the hole, that should be interesting |

Seems like you have your hands full, 8-shaw. But you'll be overwhelmed with the love for this bad boy once you fix him up, no doubt. |

Great to see a build thread and certainly looks like you have a challenge on with the bodywork. I think a turbo VR6 is a great engine choice. I used to have a Golf VR6 track-day car and it was a fantastic motor - sounds fantastic, thrives on revs and bulletproof reliability in my experience. Looking forward to further updates. |

Few little updates When I was stripping it down, I managed to get one of the rear hubnuts loose, figured itd be easier still on the car. Passenger side however did this... #1 ![]() #2 ![]() #3 ![]() #4 No pic, bent a knackered torque wrench #5 ![]() 3/4" to 1/2" adaptor Impact gun with it off the car is now my only hope ![]() So, did a buy ![]() Got it off without breaking a sweat ![]() Can't recommend this beast enough, if anyone's looking to buy an impact gun. MAC have the twin pack on a good offer atm. Cheaper than a single Snapon gun and considerably more powerful. Anyway, did another purchase the other week too. Wasn't planning on getting an engine yet but this came up cheap and local so jumped on it. ![]() ![]() Loosing the love already for it, just minor hiccups annoying me. Said great impact gun snapped the captive bolt on the rear beam, one for the trailing arm/ARB droplink. Unsure if it's repairable? Trying to get the glass out of the tailgate, managed to get about 100mm in hour n half, how I managed not to smash it in rage is beyond me. Anyone any advice? using the two handles and wire, wire keeps snapping though as soon as it starts to cut at a good speed... snap. Better wire? another technique? Got the windscreen to do after that, if its anything like this rear one I'll loose my rag with it lol. |

Don't give up now! You are just getting to the fun parts. If you want to smash it and set it on fire, just leave it alone for a few weeks and go back to it. You'll get there! Even pay someone to come in and do a bit for you, then you'll see the progress and relight your enthusiasm. It's a big project, it'll take ages. Just keep chipping away at it. |

Anyone who knows me will know progress is slow with all my cars, but I realised the other day I've been in the unit for 6 months now and I've still not finished stripping the car ffs. Anyway, here's some bits. Made a workbench, some shelves, tidied some bits up, now have quite a nice little setup in my corner of the unit. ![]() Did another buy, my little 50l compressor just wasn't up to powering my air tools, so found a used 150l SIP one. Quieter than the Draper, way higher cfm, higher pressure, doesn't come on as much. Well worth the buy. ![]() Been repairing the pair of wings for the buyer to collect this weekend, progress slowed as I was waiting to sort the compressor out before I could carry on. ![]() My 1st proper experience of mig welding rusty curse word and using repair panels, had a ball... lol! Spent more time chasing rust and modifying a £85 repair panel that didn't follow the right shape ![]() Anyway, enough moaning. Stripped more s**t ![]() Heater out, after many swear words ![]() ![]() Heater wont be going back in, Will be running a heated screen and I may treat myself to a little 12v race heater. It'd given a LOT of room behind the dash to move the firewall back if needs be, which is great. Only thing in the way is the link from the brake pedal to the master cylinder, but I dare say I'll be running a completely different setup to standard there anyway so shouldn't be an issue. It's a big old lump. ![]() Next up I pulled the entire loom, this job took hours, way more tricky than expected, so many daft little clips and little modules bolted on in hard to see spaces etc. THERES SO FRIGGIN MUCH OF IT TOO, it's so heavy ![]() ![]() Wish I had some scales I could weigh it with, wish I'd have been able to document the weights of everything removed tbf. Guess I'll just have to go off wiki kerb weight vs finished weight when I get it corner balanced. In regards to the loom, I'm going balls deep and making my own loom from scratch. I hate electrics, it goes right over my head. Determined to figure it all out and and make a really clean fresh loom. Figured its easier than working with this mess and removing about 70% of it. Decided if I get rid of as many luxuries as possible itll make it far easier, not to mention lighter. don't plan to have any wires going into the doors, rear will be minimal (lights, battery, fuel pump, sunroof motor (yes, I'm keeping the sunroof because I love them)) Engine will be standalone management anyway so nothing original there, then its just the necessities, lights, horn, wipers etc. Feels massive inside now with everything removed ![]() Decided to pass on the Petrolicious meeting at Bicester this weekend to spend some more time on this, maybe I'll actually make some big progress, maybe I'll end up being lazy, who knows ![]() |

just a question but did that loom have the cruise connectors on it, and have you chucked it in the skip? |
