Hi team, So, I got a quote from my local body panel bod for a total respray of car. 924S 1988. Mine is Alpine White. There is a little bit of rust on underside front nose bit but nothing serious. The paint is cracking to the front but nothing that a light fill and sand/paint can't fix. The quote they gave me was £3,000.00 ![]() The 'Tele dial' wheels, to refurb these, shot blast and paint silver are an extra £600.00 for all four. For the wheels this doesn't look too bad at £150 each For the main body.....this is way over my budget...but am I being unrealistic? They did give me a second quote which excluded the door panels, roof and rear bumper but included the wheels and this was around the £1200 mark. Which seems much better. Maybe they took pity on me as they picked me up from the floor after the first quote..... I don't (can't afford) to have it in concourse/perfect condition but obviously want it better. I am aware that every perfect resprayed panel will highlight the lesser ones around...so would rather have the full body...but can't get my head over the price......it will be around as much as the car cost me to start with..and this will never get past the 'family cookie jar inquisition' Thoughts please? As with any paint job the labour is the most expensive bit, mind you 2K paint at about £120/L is a bit of a shocker. the best way to make your bill as cheap as possible is do as much as you can yourself, Strip the car rubdown / flat and fill as much as you can reassemble the car yourself Labour at about £100/h plus Vat the 3K quote was actually cheap, a buddy has just had a glass out repaint on a 968 Dark Blue metallic 8K ish |

£3,000 sounds pretty reasonable for a full respray to me - are they stripping the car as well? I paid around £4,500 for a bare metal, glass out respray (that wasn't including the labour to strip the car) on my 944 turbo. The paint materials are expensive (if you want the good stuff) and then the labour to prepare the bodywork, primer etc. Wheels I had done a few years ago and think it was £400 for all four Design 90s by a company that Promax used - can't remember the name now. Most importantly do they have a good reputation? have you seen any of their work? do they work on many classic cars? |

£3000 isn't bad as above. £150 per wheel seems very steep. Locally I got mine done for £50 each, even Lepsons are cheaper than £150 and they're one of the most expensive |

you guys ![]() Maybe £3k is not so bad...but this will highlight all the other imperfections such as the engine bay, exterior trim, glass bits, dash and the headlining. So with the wheels, buying the car and various many engine bits/seals etc I have bought over the last 4 months I would be up to around the £10k....well into 'Red line Wife Alert Territory' and then I would be too afraid to drive it around for fear of dinging the paint work. I want to drive it most days and not be overly precious about it. Also, I will have a slush fund ready for the unexpected round the corner as well as floor mats and other bits I want to do. I suppose it's all relative to how many beans you are prepared to loose/spend and what you have at the end of the day, but for me to spend as much again for the full respray is too much at the moment. Think I will just go for the partial spray and do the wheels next year....can't have all my Christmas's at once. Still need a project over the winter though...so will probably tackle the wheels myself. Thanks for all the input though, very helpful. M |

Spraying a car is just the tip of the iceberg, everything else looks sub standard when the paint is immaculate. Go for the outlaw rat look, be a rebel ![]() |

Prep is vital, and that paint needs to be removed first. |
