I have, in the past, changed the belts on a 2.5 Lux and a S2. I have just started to check the belt timing and tensions on my latest 944, a S. However I have spent a fruitless 30 mins trying to find the aperature in the clutch housing so I can line up the TDC mark on the flywheel. There seems to be a lot more 'stuff' at the back of the engine which could be covering up the opening. The alternative is that the opening on the S is at the bottom of the clutch housing, anyone had the same problem. Remember this is a 944S which isnt covered in either Haynes or Clarks Garage. Incidently I cannot see the position sensors either. |

On the S they are tucked well out of sight and you will need to probably remove some pipes to see it clearly, also the marks get a little dirty making it almost impossible to see, blast some brake cleaner around the area. The minutest movement of the crank can see the flywheel mark pass the inspection hole, its best to have two people checking, one moving the crank and one with eagle eye's and a torch. |

Thanks Infrasilver. I eventually found the right aperature, I'm sure there are more hoses, wiring looms and pipes in the way than on the previous two cars. I gave up on finding the right marks and got tdc by the stick in no 1 plug hole method. I was only checking the balance shaft timing not doing a belt change. Worth the effort as the upper shaft in nearly 2 teeth out. |
