In preparation for going to the Le Mans Classic this year I had the engine taken out and all seals and gaskets replaced. Everything is fine, but unfortunately the rear crank seal still seems to be leaking even after a new seal has been fitted. Has anybody had any experience of this problem. |

That must be mighty annoying. If its definitely the crank-seal leaking then 1. the seal might not have been pre-lubriacted and the sealing surface has been damaged 2. If the shaft has a wear grove in it then a new seal will still leak (whoever fitted the seal should have checked for this). I had a similar issue on a different engine, worn shaft, fortunately there was a slightly over-sized seal available to compensate. That seal actually leaked on the first couple of times I used the car after it had been sat for some months, but after further usage and it has stopped leaking. 3. the leak is actually somewhere else and is running down into that area. |
