Post subject: | S2 Cab drain holes |
Hi all. When my car gets wet or washed, I get puddles water around the boot rim - outside the seals - where the struts sit. There are two small black rubber bungs each side - near the hinge position. These are approx 13mm diameter and 50mm apart with two each side. These have small indents in the middle. Are these the drain holes? The boot liner tape is stuck to the rim, so don't want to disturb it - to see if there are drain tubes hiding and I don't want to stick a wire through the bungs - just in case they aren't drain points! Any idea's? Thanks Barry |

They are not drain holes from the factory but you can use 911 headlight bowl drain tubes, There is a service bulletin saying as much, I bought them but found they clogged too easily so I just made holes in the grommets and put the largest possible tube in it, routed them into the area behing the rear wheels Page 24 http://www.968forums.com/Miscfileupload/968CabTop.pdf |

Thanks for your reply - that's really useful. The detail only shows a single bung each side of a larger size, but I've got two each side approx 50mm or so apart. I might just take the plunge and whip out the lining and take a closer look - but was trying to avoid disturbing it. Thanks again. |

Waylander wrote: give it it a little prodding with a bit of strimmer line see if they are just blocked I'll guarantee there's no holes, If you don't want to disturb the carpet (I wouldn't, if its not falling apart, it will, if you remove it) remove a bung each side, source 2x 50cm lengths of 8mm tubing, use a hole punch to punch about a 4mm hole in the middle, thread the hose through the metal hole, aiming to the back of the car, you should be able (with a bit of trial and error) see (feel) the tube in the rear side compartments under the battery and the other side under the harmonic balance weight, there are drain holes in those areas, so as long as they are clear, the water will drain away, Now push the grommet over the tube (leaving about 5mm out of the top) and carefully use a screwdriver to poke the grommet back in the hole |

Looked at mine yesterday and can confirm no drain holes in the grommets. On a vaguely related topic, are there supposed to be any drain holes in the body near the battery area on the Cab? Mine has a rusty hole there and Im nor sure if its a hole that is supposed to be there thats got rusty and enlarged or if it shouldnt be there at all. This is where the rear wing turns under the car, right behind the wheel arch (I didnt take a pic) - so at the very front of the battery compartment area. |
