Post subject:  944 s2 replacement shocks
I'm looking to replace the original shocks on my s2, and wondered if anyone has any recommendations.

Im not interested in turning it into a hard riding track machine, more fast road driving.

I've seen spax do a complete set for about the sort of money I want to spend. They apparently lower the car too, but I'd be happy to keep the stock ride height.

Bilstein B6 conversion seems to be very popular. However, you need to have your existing units modified to fit the insert if you go down this route. Type in B6 conversion in the search box & lots of useful info comes up as well as feedback on how they feel.

Thanks, just watched our German friend on YouTube doing the conversion, and looks a bit of a faff. I'd prefer something that works off the bat.

Yep, understand. KW is another ready to fit option but opinions are varied & they seem to be more track biased from what I have read.
You might also want to consider replacing all the rubber bushes with new if they haven’t been done for a while as this will help maximise the feel from the new suspension.

A little bit more pricey, but not much, is to fit the 968 complete standard units at the front. This requires changing the springs as well as they are a smaller diameter, and therefore the Spring top washer (cap). No modifications required and everything needed can be ordered from Porsche for circa £700.

Thanks, that's an interesting option, but I guess I'd be buying original stock, close on 30 years old?

I put this setup on a 944 turbo last year and it was great.

I have new genuine struts on my 968, the NS one flexes in the middle and knocks and the label dates it as built in 2008 they have done 10k miles since I fitted them, I was given them by a friend who went KWv3, at which point they had done less than 2k miles

I've been using Konis for a while. With the coil over kit on the front from Paragon. I find them pretty firm especially the rear and being gas filled they raise the ride height a bit. It was a cheap alternative at the time. I run full soft on the back and 50% on the front good on track and smooth surfaces but a bit bone jarring on rough stuff. The spring rates are higher than std and I'm using M030 arbs. I lowered it to CS height and it's a bit lighter (comp seats and soundproofing rear seat delete).

It depends who set it up!

My Turbo on KWv3s was superb! According to Oli it may have been too good! After all, it didn't really feel much different to a 'normal' 944 at normal speeds! But it did hang on at higher ones which Oli thanfully didn't do! It took me a while to push the car harder for obvious reasons!

Im running Konis up front on 968 CS springs. The rear was lowered slightly with the eccentrics and I was on the konis as well. I found them a bit soft so bought some GAZ golds with the springs, nice and firm now, got M030 ARBs also. My dad is running the konis all round with stock ARBs and his rides really well.

I'm very keen on this when mine is ready & back on the road.

From what I've read so far...

It seems like the Konis are quite good & relatively not so bad to DIY. On the other hand the Bilsteins (B6) are much more complex for the DIY enthusiast & quite a bit more expensive, especially if not DIY, but the better option.

I'm still confused whether to go for Konis, which are still considered better than factory & I'm sure I can handle fitting myself. Or go for the B6s which are better but considerably much more expensive, especially if I decide to pay for the conversion.

In my case, the car is only for road & no track use.

Are your dad's Konis just shocks replacements(front inserts fitted) or coil overs?
