Post subject:  Creaking inconsistent steering

I have a loud creaking sound that sounds like it is coming from just behind the steering wheel and really inconsistent steering weights. I’m not sure these things are related as they didn’t start at the same time.
It appears to go from powered to nothing and back again in a split second.

Any ideas?

Check the U joints on the steering shaft.
Check fluid level, and pipes for leaks.
Check condition of dust covers on rack.
Have a listen to pump when unde load.

It could be the UJ, I had something similar with mine and the bearing was shot. Unfortunately they're not currently available from Porsche so I've got one on back order and have tried to regrease the existing one as much as I could
