so whilst its back in the garage (fuel pump, boot seals and removal of mud from where my beautiful wife tried to take it off road) I revert to reading through forums as opposed to driving it...

and I noticed that not all S2's have the same lettering arrangement on the back - mine has a black 944 with a black S2 underneath but i've seen pics of "hollow" 944 lettering with S2 next to it on the same line

is there any rhyme or reason to this? Does it show different years or is something else the reason for it?

just curious!

They were supplied with either black or silver badges of about 1cm thick plastic with the S2 section on the line below. Resprays, accidents or even just debadging have caused all sorts of variations. Lots of aftermarket suppliers sell vinyl stickers for varying amounts but the Porsche ones are around £6 from the dealer (just got a new one for my Turbo )

And cabs don't have any model designation on the back............
