Hi

Hope someone can throw some light on this problem.
My 944 s2 developed a problem last night where all of a sudden the big red light came on the dash. With it the antilock light came on and the battery/voltage needle went from 12/14 to no reading at all?

Started this morning all ok after about a mile all happened again and stayed on!

Reading up could be wheel sensor or ?? but why would batt needle not register.?

Can anyone help??

Paul

the voltmeter has nothing to do with the abs system.
sounds like a bad connection rather than something terrible as it all came back on again in the morning. It might be one of the three big connectors on the back of the instrument pod. The flexible pcb connections are tin plated and corrode with age. Maplins do a fibre glass pcb cleaning pencil. Might be worth taking the instrument pod out and giving all the contact points a clean up.
If that doesn't do it check all the earth bonding points around the car.

Do you have a big bunch of keys, could be a worn ignition switch

Loss of voltage will put on all the lights

Hi

No big bunch of keys. What does the voltage regulator do?

Regulates the voltage output from the alternator

Easy to replace not expensive in the back of the alternator held in with two screws, could be very tight
