Post subject:  944 Front spoiler bracket help

A long time ago I got a pair of knackered brackets from someone breaking a car. They were good enough to use as patterns. I recently got round to making one of them. Item number 30

I have not a bloody clue where it should mount! Can anyone tell me, or better yet take a photo of their car for me.

Cheers

Just taking a guess with this having just re-installed the 944 front valence on my 924. I think that it attaches to two of the bolts that secure the valence to the bottom of the fender, with the 3rd point bolting to the the inner fender / frame rail extension. Mine has a fabricated aluminium bracket in that position.

Unfortunately not, that was my first idea. But the hole spacing is wrong. That's when I took to the parts boom, and it looks like its much lower down and forward.

I was hoping someone would have the part fitted and could snap a quick photo.

Tried to get a look at the one on my turbo, pretty difficult to see without removing wheel liner and bat wing ect, so no photo. However, looks like it might be attached at the bottom corner where bolt 14 and part 12 get joined up on that diagram. Fiddle around with it and I am sure it will be obvious where and how the other holes line up.

Ah, I haven't got the arch liner so hadn't realised the faff. I did offer it up there, but there wasn't anything else to attach it too. Could be that its part of the arch liner mount, and missing the arch liners leaves me wanting. I appreciate you taking the time to have a look under your car, I might have another 10 minutes offering it up to places this evening. Might end up being my hole winter project haha

Hi Broady, I remembered to grab a picture earlier... Mine does go to the bumper to wing mounting bolts:

(click here if image doesn't work...)

Maybe they changed between model years?

I'm getting a strong itch to do some de-rusing now I've taken that photo.

I had my wheel arch liners out this week to investigate and attack some rust.

Are these the brackets you mention?

The hole in the brackets nearest the camera are used for one of the (many) bolts holding the wheel arch trim in place. I've no idea what the brackets mount to on the inside as the join is hidden behind underseal.

The brackets seem to double up as bumper to wing + wheel arch trim to wing/bumper joins.

HTH.

Mark

*Edit* Seems I've been afflicted by the Photobucket curse! PM me your email and I'll send the photos as attachments if you'd like.

Gryphon, unfortunately your photo isnt loading. its just showing a circle with a bar in the middle.

MJL944 earlier the images didnt work, but they are now. And for anyone else. if you click on the photobucket holding image, it will take you to the image so you can still see it. that looks like it could be it. I will offer it up in those places this week and see.

Ta, ill report back

Image should be fixed.

Looking again though I'm not sure I have the stock bracket as it doesn't have any pressings, and has seemingly random bits of metal around the screws... and might actually be two bits of metal instead of one! I need to give it a clean up and find out

Right you lovely people, thanks to your help I have the answer. I was in the process of giving you a frame of reference, so heres them photos.

Image

Image

After seeing your photo gryphon, it explained all! Its exactly the thing in the place for the thing. and on my car im missing the tab on the inner wing. As you see from this stub here.

Image

Its covered in waxoyl and gooo, so thatll be fun to clean up and try and weld too.

But roughly offered up it looks about right.

Image

A change of sides here. The bracket fitted, I have mounted it on a small tab ive made to fit just under the air intake.

Image

Now referring back to MJL944s photos, the more keen eyed of you may have noticed on my OS wing it was missing these two fellas.

Image

They are present and correct on my NS wing. I also note my NS wing doesnt have an Ariel, so ive always thought it was from a late car. This no confirms it as the late car has a different wing stay.

I thank you all, It looks like weve sorted :D

A little update to this. Ive made and fitted lower brackets too. Hopefully a useful reference for anyone in future. Item 6 in the IPC image at the top of the page.

The drivers side was easy, it just needed the foot making and welding on. I think blasted and painted it.

Image

Passenger side
This was based on a pattern I was given years go so I know it roughly takes this form.

Image

Image

Those who were really looking will have noticed i had the foot the wrong way, so i cut turned and welded it. Then much stone chip and paint.

Quite pleased for tinsnips a hammer and a vice :D
