Hi guys,

anyone know how I can test the wiring to my Hall sensor.

The plug and nearby wiring was shot and when I delved in there one of the wires was broken and the other just a single strand.

So I've replaced it with a new section of shielded cable and a new plug.

Car is now running better but Id like to actually test after a while to make sure my solder connections are still good without taking the joint apart.

Do the wires lead back to the DME connector so I could do a continuity test?

Thanks

Yes the wires lead back to the ecu

So should be testable, I seem to remember it's green left, shield centre red right

Well,
my wires at the plug were Brown & White so thats a good start!

Ah yes you have to excuse me I have 968 they are a bit different,

But the sensor is a closed circuit so no earth still the wires will go back to the ecu

Same problem on my 968 Ian...

The lower half of the plug disintegrated and is just about staying together.... I've bought some three pin plug kits to rebuild the connector and have some spare if it'll help with a more permanent fix.

I'm just down the road from you in High Lane near Disley....

Thanks Blackadder,

I have successfully replaced mine with a new section of shielded cable added to the loom and a new plug- it seems OK, but Id like to figure out a way to test my solder joints in the loom are still intact at a later date without stripping off all the heat shrink I added.

Im thinking I can do a continuity test from the plug in the engine bay to somewhere on the DME plug if I can find the right pins.

No problem Ian, I'm sure the wiring diagram will help point you towards the right pins although electrics aren't my forte so can't help any more on that bit. I do have a Durametric diagnostics kit if you ever need one....

Thanks Blackadder,

I might take you up on the Durametric offer - I have heard the ECU logs a "bad hall sensor" error if its not connected so that may read that?

Im off to France in it next week (new clutch fitted this week!) so I'd like to try and test it when I get back.

Many thanks for the offer by the way.
