First ever post so hopefully one of you can help!

The picture attached isn't from my car but shows the issue (bar mine having zero washers)
Just recently reupholstered the leather on my 944 85.5 gear stick and I noticed that the gearbox connecting rod isn't being held on by any clips or washers and will just pull off pretty easily from the gear lever.

I've found various part numbers online for washers and clips but not sure where best to locate them and sizes!

Thanks in advance.

There should be an E clip on the end to stop the rod from sliding off the shaft of the gear stick, I'm not sure about that sprung washer shown in the picture though, mine doesn't have that.

Porsche will probably sell you one but if you know somewhere that sells them local there's no need for it to be a genuine part.

Porsche don't sell the Spring washer anymore. You should be able to get a standard E clip that fits. I used a nylon washer to 'pack out' the slop as well. Make sure the protruding rod from the gear stick hasn't worn to an oval, if it has you will have vague gear changes, £38 to replace. I put a little grease on to minimise the wear.

Thanks guys, I popped down to my local store and procured many E clips to see which one fit. Surprisingly it hasn't seemed to make a difference to gear stick vibrations but that's another matter entirely!

Is the shaft the selector rod sits on worn? also maybe the ball joint at the bottom of the gearstick and the rubbers that hold the cross linkage on the selector on the gearbox maybe perished, all common faults on the 944, if interested I have new rubbers for the gearbox end spare and for sale if you are interested.

Only944 does a good value selector , also shortens the shift slightly, well worth fitting and makes gearbox change feel like new.
if you have vibration it could well be other things but start with the cheap bits first
Torque tube bearings, gearbox mounts and balancer shaft timing can be out
