I took the plastic inner wing out of the n/s wheel arch today to see where the 3 bolts are that go through to the A post . Unfortunately you can't see anything as there is a black cylinder in the way,it is about 30cm high and 9cm wide and has hoses at the top and bottom.It looks as though it will unbolt and can be pulled out to access the bolts holding the wing on.Can anyone tell me what this cylinder does ? The surprise was that with the plastic inner bit out I could see the front of the floor pan where it meets the wheel arch in front of the jacking point and it did not look good.A few prods with a sharp screwdriver and the jacking point is ready to fall off!Oh dear I missed this one.Just when I thought all the holes underneath were done.The repair panel is going to be a complex shape as it will contain the jacking point and then bend up into the wheel arch.Lots of metal bashing fun. It's a good job I got this car cheap,If I had paid real money for it and found this I think I would be peeved to put it mildly. Anyway,any inf on the black cylinder would be most appreciated. |

ABS pump is in the o/s wheel arch you are looking at the carbon canister for the petrol tank, and that jacking point isn't. The correct jacking point is in the middle of the sill. If you use the one on the o/s the floor gets pushed up and the throttle pedal sticks with potential disastous consequences. ( like running into a hedge)

Thanks.I know that's not really a jacking point just couldn't think what else to call it . The location of the carbon canister could explain why I get the occasional smell of petrol in the cabin.I will check the connections on this canister carefully. |

Occasional whiff of petrol in cabin will most likely be your rear hatch seal on the road out. Stuart |

Stuart I'll second that there is a lot of low pressure in that area so fumes get sucked in if the hatch is not sealing, always worth checking the fuel lines though especially where they go over the torsion bar tube, what fun to replace. |
