My 1988 944Lux has had one of the "improved" DME EPROMs sold by certain suppliers on the Web and fleabay etc.

The car certainly does not seem to be more powerful than my Brothers 924s ( Yes Bro I know your car is lighter.....), I am really sceptical about most of the tunning companies out there and can't be bothered to put the car on the rolling road to check it out at present So I would like to put a standard EPROM back to make sure that I don't run into problems down the line.

Does anyone have a chip they will sell? or one they can lend me to copy (I think we still have the PROM burning kit in a dusty cupboard at work!).

Unless you stick it on the rollers you won't tell the difference. Does your car have a stock exhaust? Is the ignition fit. Are all the hydraulic lifters giving you all the valve lift of the cam? Without the dyno your shooting in the dark. My car when bought did 112 at the wheels. ( V disappointed) When the mixture was put right. ( It was too lean) it made 116. With the faults corrected & a Dansk exhaust & a modernised fuel system it did 140 (Still no chip) Going for remap now ( to save some fuel on cold start as it's way too rich.) I expect 140! Maybe 145 as the fuel map is not right. How do you know that you are giving your car the correct amount of fuel without checking the mixture on the dyno. Dyno time is cheap compared to wasting money on ineffective mods. I've seen cars fitted with modifications make less power at the wheels. But the owners thought it faster because it sounded better or they'd spent lots of cash so it must be. Get the picture. :)

Your preaching to the converted! thats why I want a STANDARD i.e. OE Porsche Chip! I'm not interested in increasing the performance of the car just getting it absolutely stock standard and as near concourse condition as I can. I have other toys for racing and track work (Sports prototype sub 3.5 sec 0-60)

The previous owner had made some Performance mods......that would only reduce the output.
i.e. cone filter drawing hot air from next to the engine (and incidentally left the AFM flapping in the breeze.) and as you rightly say just adding noise.

I have done all the usual checks and setup but the cheap chip leaves it way rich mid range.
