As you know I recently purchased a 944S, and as it had no record of the belts being done decided to get them changed and had a 48K service done at the same time.

heres the list

Clutch Kit (Sachs)
Clutch Master Cylinder
Cam belt,Balance belt plus all rollers and tensioner slipper
Steering Shaft
2 Front discs (ATE)
Engine mount
Dist Cap and Rotor
PAS and Alternator belts
Brake hoses
2 water hoses
Service kit +semi synth oil
Brake fluid
Antifreeze
various sundry bits

Total £1366.03

Labour
Carry out 48000 service
Replace all belts+tensioners+slipper
replace front discs/pads+hoses+brake fluid change
Remove and replace worn clutch
Remove and replace master cylinder
Remove and replace steering shaft
Check Temp sensor and reset, check and adjust throttle idle
Replace engine mount and leaky water hoses
Replace other parts as neccessary

Total £725

Grand total £2091.03

Given that clutch replacement(inc labour) seems to be around £800, A belt change around 280 and a 48K service £350, I reckon I've not done too badly.
Rest of the car has been given a clean bill of health, and is in very good condition so all in all Im pretty happy (as long as SWMBO doesn't see the bill ;) )

So a big thanks to Andy Moss who carried out the work, kept me informed as things came up and loaned me his golf GTI for a week

And finally, when adding the above to the price I paid for the car initially, its still come within the budget I set aside.

Next week its off for a full geometry check and 4 new tyes.

That seems pretty reasonable, but did you have to do it all at once? SWMBOs notice the big bills! ;)

That is indeed a big bill but you have now had some of the major ££££ items replaced in one go so it should pay dividends over the coming years.

I bet you notice a night and day difference in how the car drives and the clutch action (it will be even better again after the alignment 8) )

Spent about that that on mine when I got it. But the car is a daily drive so I think it's worth it! No point having one of these if it limps along with half the horses it had when it was new. Your labour bill is pretty good I think. The clutch is a lot of work alone. Decided to bite the bullet & book mine in for a full remap. Wayne (At chip wizards) tells me that all '44s run way too rich on cold start & he can sort that out. Should make a difference to the MPG on shorter journeys! Hopefully it may go a little better as well.
Well done for doing it right! :)

Well as the car is to become my daily driver it makes sense to get it all over and done with at the first hurdle, particularly as I still have my Octy vRS at the moment, so getting too and from work isnt an issue (I let Andy have his golf back once we realised the 944 would be with him a while)

The exhaust will probably need replacing soonish, but at least they seem to be reasonably cheap. Im still amazed I found one where all the electrics/switches still work !

Also happened to have a closer look at the service book, and would you believe it has never been owned or serviced outside of Devon in 21 years?

Doesn't sound too bad to me, that's a lot of work so reasonable money.
