In need of a couple of bonnet struts as my originals (1989) didn't want to play anymore, so I ordered a pair for just £22.00 including carriage from Carparts4less on Saturday evening around 8.30 and they were delivered today. They were an absolute pain to fit - need two pairs of hands and at least three Weetabix for breakfast to get the little devils in, but after much huffing, puffing, sweating and swearing, they are done and work perfectly. Nice one Barry and enjoyed our chat at the AGM. This must be one of the things which are much easier on a 928! Just those ball joints with spring clip at both ends of the strut, so popping new pair on is a doddle. Same arrangement at rear. But the bonnet won't bash you on head now! Adrian |

If anyone else is looking for quality Gas Struts have a look at SGS Engineering online (based in Derby) as well. I got a quote from SGS and they are a bit more expensive, 12.99 per strut + delivery and VAT. So I suppose it depends how the quality of the struts compare. SGS do also offer a re-gas / upgrade service which I was thinking of using for the hatch struts. I'm not sure that struts that can carry the current for the rear heated window are available new. Someone please correct if this is wrong. |

Front bonnet struts are rated at 35KG - I replaced mine new, a while back with Gabriel - Re-gassing the old units (I tried that) is not really worth it... Dave S2 |

Someone please correct if this is wrong. They are from porsche made by Sabilus, SHS ones can be made to work you have to change the body end of the OS one to metal from plastic and bobs ya uncle |

Having read this thread, I ordered both boot & bonnet struts from SGS. Delivery was next day & have fitted the rears with out any issues. The fronts however are another story and I have had to leave the originals on. The shank section of the eyelet which goes between the two bonnet-plates, fouls on these plates and does not allow the gas strut to move. It looks as though the eyelet plate should either have been longer or the shank section ground back to the same thickness as the eyelet thus allowing it to pivot freely as per the existing struts. I can remove this eyelet part from the replacement struts but on the existing struts, this piece is welded to the strut body so I am stuffed for this option. As it is a bank hol weekend, I cannot contact SGS but was wondering if anyone else had run into this issue? |
