Hi all, I've been a member on here for a while, since I bought this S2 last year but haven't had a lot of time to play with it. I've now got my teeth into the restoration of this 147K mile slightly tired example. I used it for a few months, really enjoying the driving experience but she hasn't proved to be not the most reliable beast, so I took her off the road last winter to get a few jobs done. Things have (as so often happens) escalated some what...

I've had the sills replaced on both sides, including repair sections fitted to both front and rear wings. I'm now in the process of stripping it in preparation of a respray in a few weeks. Hopefully, by the spring, I'll have her back on the road. Well, that's the plan...

I've given her a full service, including all the belts etc, had the wheels refurbished, replaced various bits of broken trim (much more to fix yet!), sorted the inevitable faulty clock display and have today replaced the leather gear lever gaiter. A job I was not looking forward to, but turned out not to be as bad as I had expected!

As bought condition.

Quite a few previous "kick fix" repairs to sort!

Hopefully all the structural work is now complete.

Both rear wings required repair.

Currently looking a little sorry for her self.

Hi Pete. I'm sure your car will be great once to work is done. It looks like you're having similar work done to me (apart from I haven't needed new sills).

If I can offer some advice it would be try and get any trims, seals, stickers and stuff from your local OPC (if you want original). Foolishly I thought the Porsche Shop was the same thing (missed the disclaimer) and it seems I may have been able to get some things cheaper. Shop around but don't assume OPC will be more expensive as it seems they are often not.

Anyway, good luck with it and keep us updated.

Btw nice house in the first pic, is that your pad???

Cheers Loz. I wish it was my pad! No, that was taken at a hotel near Bath we stayed at last December. Thanks for the advise, I had briefly wondered what I was going to do about all the decals but haven't got as far as looking for them yet.

Wow - nice dedication with the respray: rubbers, 'screen removed etc! Are you using the original 'screen? Mine had developed a crack and was badly pitted but was replaced via the insurance...

A new nose badge looks perfect on new paint - but no doubt you have thought of that...

Great pics - thanks for sharing your project!

Always good to see another restoration project and done to a high standard. So many have been lost to breakers yards but the trend is definately changeing. Douglas Valley have not had one in for ages.

The new nose badges are junk. I've had two fall apart on me, all the little inlaid plastic bits fell out leaving a plain bronze coloured badge. Porsche replaced the first one under warranty, when the second fell apart I decided I couldn't be bothered. I've subsequently been told others have had the same experience.

If the original badge is half way decent I'd recommend keeping it. The quality is far superior.

The screen did come out in one piece luckily, as I was informed that they are £500 to replace (?). I didn't intend originally getting quite so involved as stripping all the glass etc, but as the job has progressed, it seemed the sensible thing to do. I was glad we did remove the windscreen in the end as we found some rust starting to appear on screen pillar that we didn't spot with the screen in.

Thanks for the heads up on the bonnet badge. I think I will stick to the original as it isn't in too bad a condition.

Next job is to source the decals, stone chip protection etc. Any suggestions as to a good place to purchase these?

I got my rear decal from Paragon in the States along with a few other bits so the carriage wasn't a big mark up. I have left the shark fins off the car. Probably the best idea is to make your own or go to one of the specialists chip guard people. OPC prices are silly. Oh, and get some fog light protectors I had to buy a new fog and they are so expensive. A few years ago I called in at a chip protection place after picking the 993 up from 9m after a full respray, couldn't get me in for 2 weeks and had to negotiate a rechipping road on the way home, front valance was ruined. Not a happy chappie.

Looking fantastic, well done.

Roy, can I give you a shout for a set of stone guards and a rear Porsche decal?

Cheers,
Al.
