Hi,

My 944 (Jan 1984 according to chassis number) has just been for its MOT.
All it failed on was a leaky front shock which I thought was going to be easy. We ordered a
Strut insert from Euro car parts to fit a Sachs/ Boge but it doesn't fit.

The mechanic said they were probably non standard struts, they are yellow but no markings so
we can't match it or know what to order. We tried buying the whole strut and insert from Euro for over 300 quid
but it doesn't even resemble the one on the car.

I wanted to try coil overs even though they are about 600 quid, but they
Have to be made and take 10 the mechanic doesn't have space
as it's stuck on his ramp! Also they only seem to list from Sept 84.

My final option is that in my garage I have a complete set of struts springs and shocks
Which I think are from a 924 turbo. I understand these will fit but if they happen to
be from a na 924 (I can't quite remember) would they still fit the car, they have blue
Paint on their springs which I understand denotes them 944, so we are quietly hopeful.

The mechanic says the rear handbrake is given him problems too, he's ordered 2 types
Of shoes but neither fit! He is competent but his not having much luck...

Lot of questions, it's been a nightmare! I would love to fit coil overs from a mk1 golf
due to the price, and I know it's been done but don't know the part numbers etc.

Know nothing about 944's, but if it's yellow it could be a Koni unit? have to say that apart from the money I don't fancy changing just one unit, ideally you should be looking at least the opposite side too?

Sorry no pics as it's at the mechanic. I think I have made progress because the
Strut assembly s in my garage are 924 turbo with blue paint on the springs.
I may order 30mm lower springs to put on these struts though. Thanks, Mark

Never rely on fitment lists. GAZ, for example, will do any strut for any type or year and the fitment lists in their catalogue is plainly bought in and incomplete.
