Hi, I'm refurbing a spare head for spring on an '87 944, 8 valve, although the valve clearances are self adjusting is it critical which of the spacers fit under valve spring seat, 0.5 or 1.0.
Many thanks

Yes. You need to measure the installed spring length and use the spacers to get the measurement specified in the workshop manual.

Yes it is critical and you may find that the spacers vary due to wear in the spring seats if the head has been stripped down and rebuilt properly before, Be sure to find the correct measurement for your model and set accordingly. The Porsche manual will tell you to use their special tool but you can do it by using cut to size guides although this takes a little longer, I can't remember the actual size for my turbo but 41 mm approx comes to mind and iirc the exhaust are different to the inlet springs....
