after scratching an itch, i bought an 83 944 almost a month ago and have been working my way through the to do list.

so far ive done the following

got the blower working - duff relay
replaced the drivers seatbelt - was fraying
replaced both right hand speakers - both had died
sealed the blower plastic cover - now the footwells don't fill up with water
replaced the boot lock rubber
replaced wipers - although was sent 19" but cut the drivers down slightly to fit
touched up various small paint chips
washed and polished more than my wife would like.

so todays task was to see why the passenger door wouldn't open with the key.

after taking off the door card i could see there wasn't anything attaching the back of the lock (blue arrow) to the mechanism. i found a couple of broken bits of plastic at the bottom of the door but nothing resembling a whole part.

im guessing this is a common part to fail and i think this is the part on ebay but cant be sure. Can anyone confirm this is the part that attaches to the ball on the back of the lock?

thanks

I'd check with your local Porsche Centre.
Sometimes eBay bargains are anything but and new parts are the same price or cheaper.

Hi, Yes thats the part you need but as above its probably much cheaper at your local opc. You might also consider not replacing that part if your central locking is working as it makes breaking in to your car much easier, as the locks aren't the last word in security.

It should be in big banner writing at the top of this forum. "When you're looking for parts, check the price with Porsche FIRST."

They're not always cheaper than other sources, but for 944 specific parts they often are. Wouldn't you rather have a new part for less money than a salvage part off eBay?

What others have said.

I've found this a few times. As an example:

That linkage is clearly taking the piss. vs OPC

928 Big Black Discs (each) : £225 Special Order through ECP vs £180 from OPC. Even German sourced items are £380 before delivery
Central Locking Operating Rod : £8 from a specialist vs : £5 from OPC.

As a bonus stuff from OPC comes with a 2 year warranty.

The truth is everyone think the dealers are more money and on a few occasions the specialists and motor factors will play on this. However, the specialists do at least keep these parts on the shelf.

The only exception to the rule I've found with dealers above is with Mazda. Maybe I am unlucky but when I owned the MX-5 the dealer wanted more than MX-5 Parts for everything and gave me availability times of a week.

thanks guys, you know an OPC is the last place i expect to look for parts, crazy really as ive owned Porsches for 8 years but my perception has been adjusted.

i dont have central locking and with only one door working, when it froze this morning i had to get in via the boot! i was sure id sprayed PTFE grease down the locks, but will have to lube them up some more.
