After finally getting all the niggles sorted to make a good daily Driver I could rely on, the headgasket has gone! The car is an 83 with 120k on it. Clutch is thousand miles old, new cambelt and rollers In Feb and OK cooler seals in May. It will need a water pump too as that is old but if I get the job done, I am guessing after the pump And a skim it will be a grand, will it escalate and bring other problems for Being taken apart? Not sure whether to sell as project. Anyone had theirs done and did it cause probs afterwards? Many thx |

Its a pretty simple job to remove and refit the head on one of these and then outsource the surface grind and pressure test. |

Thanks. I was looking online earlier on the 'how to' stages and it didn't seem to bad. |

The headgasket on these engines has a typical service interval of 10 years. Often they can last longer but on removal you will most likely come across a disintegrating gasket which is just holding on if it has not let go. All 944's on the road will most likely have had the HG done by now. It's not that difficult and the usual HG drills apply, nothing different from any other car. I had a very light skim done on mine when the HG was done and the car has been faultless since, about 30k miles ago now. Stuart |

I may have diagnosed it incorrectly! It was airlocks in the system and a lot of condensation from it being unused for a few weeks. I had some time over Christmas and flushed the system through. It was better but ran hotter than normal. I tried running the engine with the bleed screw open which expelled a lot of air and it started to run a half but there was still white smoke from the exhaust. Remembering last winter when Augmented 944 told me condensation could take 10 miles to burn off I went for a drive. 40 miles and No overheating. When I returned, no more smoke! |

Yup, these are a pig to bleed right. The Turbos are worse here. |
