I have a query. On a late 944 with no direct mechanical hatch mechanism, when using the under bonnet +12v terminal (and a convenient engine-bay earth point for the -12v connection) to open the rear hatch, does there still need to be a battery fitted in the boot to complete the circuit? I would like to remove the battery entirely for one of (possibly both) the 944s over winter. Previously I have kept the car in a running state and have not had cause to use the terminal. n.b. Before someone suggests it, keeping the car on a trickle charger or battery conditioner isn't an option. |

As you were. I decided to brave the cold morning and do a test with my S2 and a spare battery. The answer is "you don't need a battery in-line to complete the circuit". |

If the car is kept outside, have you considered a solar charger. |

One is outside, Sean, but it is not "secure". I would merely be providing the local youth with a convenient Christmas present for their dads. The other is in a remote garage with no power. |

Hi Glenn, as you found out - you don't need a battery in circuit. However, I would insulate the +ve terminal lead well so that it doesn't short out on the body when you connect the 'spare' battery to get the hatch open. ![]() |

Why nt use a Disc-carnect, I used these on a few cars before. One twist and the better is disconnected |

JasonGibson wrote: Why nt use a Disc-carnect, I used these on a few cars before. One twist and the better is disconnected They're a very nice idea, with a couple of flaws for my use case 1. I am not sure I have clearance to fit one as I have a somewhat "oversize" battery in the S2. 2. With the battery in the car but disconnected, I will be short of a power source to open the boot... 3. It is potentially "too easy". Having to re-fit a battery is a sufficient "pain" to discourage use, resisting temptation is something I need help with as the winter drags on. G. |
