Hi All. I'm just getting my D90s refurbished. Currently they have some "Porsche" decals on them which I presume were an after-market addition. Is that right or were these stickers offered on the wheels by Porsche themselves?

These are an after-market decal.

Thanks Andrew. I figured as much but I know Porsche liked to stick their name on almost every other part of the car, so thought it was worth asking. :D

Hi :)

Normally you buy the genuine Porsche wheel centres WITH the Porsche badge already on them.....like this brand new set I am selling for my brother.....

Hi Brett. I'm not sure I get you there; it's the sticker on one of the spokes I was asking about not the centre caps. However, although I do have a set of metal centre caps not dissimilar to those, they are not in quite as good nick. How much is your brother looking to get for them?

Hi :)

They are brand new with receipt for £89.95....make a sensible offer plus a couple of quid in postage or pick up from me in Bournemouth...

The Porsche script on the wheels is non standard I think...

All the best Brett :)

I wonder if these are the same stickers:

I can see why - they look quote good to my eyes.

Although the alignment looks cock-eye on the picture in your first post. I think it's down to the fact that the sticker is central in the spoke but doesn't align with the wheel bolt hole. Choose a different spoke next time and it'll look very good!

Hi Oli. Good point about the chosen spoke. Looking at the wheel there is one spoke that is right between two bolt holes. That one would probably be the best choice.

If I'm honest I think they're a bit cheesy, but at the same time quite fun, so I'm tempted to get some. I find it quite interesting to see how the number of decals on our cars increased into the early eighties but then dropped off again. I've not seen many S2s with much more than the Porsche sticker across the rear. And do 968s usually have any at all (apart from maybe Club Sport down the side)?

Yes - the spoke at the bottom in your picture would be a better choice. Although the fact that there are a different number of spokes to the number of wheel bolts is an interesting point which suggests that the wheel design isn't optimal, which is unusual for Porsche. LJKSetright wrote quite a lot about wheel design and his words are ALWAYS worth reading.

Interesting observation about the (over-)use of the word 'Porsche' on the cars and how it's changed over time. The 968's had 'Porsche' embossed into the rear plastic wrap-around, although the 944's had 'Porsche' on both a decal on the rear and embossed (in smaller letters) into the spoiler. Of course the 968CS made up for any slight branding deficiency with a thumping great big "Club Sport" written down both sides.
